We attended the music festival that is held in Clifftop, WV. It is an international gathering of musicians with contests, concerts, workshops, square dances, camping and a hymn-sing. This was the first time that all of us had gone to this event and talk about “jumping in feet first.” This music festival is like no other that I have ever attended. All of the many camp sites with each holding their own jams with the music played all day and all night. While there we met up with a friends Sid and daughter Taylor who joined us on stage for the Traditional Band contest on Saturday. We did not make the finals (top 5 bands go) and our running joke was we came in 6th place (there is not a 6th place). We enjoyed the experience and may try this again in the future.
We got to lead a very long jam at the main lodge porch on Friday and Saturday nights with each ending well past midnight. There were well over 20 players who came to each with a lot of energy and joy that only thing that made us stop was being tired and having sore hands. We enjoyed the fiddle playing of a gentleman from Brighton, England and had fun with another player using augmenting the various tunes with a musical saw.
