In playing Old Time music there needs to be a lead melody instrument. Traditionally, this is the fiddle and we have done well using the banjo and mandolin as our lead. However, we have longed hope that a fiddle player would emerge from our family and she has.
Over the Easter weekend Fran came for a visit and led the group with some fine fiddle playing. She introduced us to some new Celtic songs “Britches Full of Stiches” and “ Road to Lisdoonvarna” as well as play some more traditional Old Time tunes like “Old Joe Clark” and “Boil Them Cabbage Down.” The latter Fran showed us an unknown part B to this song. John even joined in with playing along with the Mountain Dulcimer and Edna got to try our her new Banjo. Overall a good weekend working to integrate a new player and so very glad to have Fran join us.
