A FOTA jam was held at the Farmington Village Community Center in Pasadena, MD the evening of March 22, 2014. John, who recently has begun to attend FOTA jam sessions, volunteered to host this event. There was an excellent turn out of players as we enjoyed the break in the weather, enjoyed some good food, and played some great tunes such as “Goodbye Liza Jane,” “St. Anne’s Reel,” “Liberty,” “Arkansas Traveler,” and many others including a true sing along to “Red Wing.” During a break, Mountain Color played for the group with a couple of songs written by David and the old time tune “Bill Cheatham”. Jim Weed from the “Capital ‘Harper’s Autoharp Club” was also there and provided all with a wonderful demonstration of melody playing on the Autoharp.
Over this weekend there were celebrations for Maryland Day and this included a nice walk through Annapolis. Highlight was meeting up with friends that live in the area and listing to the Celtic tunes performed by the Weems Creek Jammers at the Chase-Lloyd historical home.
We also took advantage of this time together to learn some new songs and get in some practice time. Most notable was a Steve Martin song called “ Sun’s Gonna Shine” and some songs that David provided. John got to show off his Ukulele but we have a ways to go before being able to integrate that instrument.
